The Hilo Community Chorus will begin rehearsals at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the University of Hawaii at Hilo rehearsal room next to the Performing Arts Center.
Rehearsals will continue each Monday until the group’s free choral concert Dec. 2.
Music for the concert includes Kim Andre Arnesen’s “Magnificat” and Mark Hayes’ “International Carol Suites Nos. 1-3,” carols of Europe and the British Isles.
Arnesen is a Norwegian composer mostly known for his choral compositions — a cappella, accompanied by piano or organ, or large-scale works for chorus and orchestra. He has received wide notice with his choral works performed by choirs around the world.
Hayes is an internationally known and award-winning composer, arranger, concert pianist and conductor with more than 1,000 publications in print. Whether concertizing abroad or composing at his home in Kansas City, Mo., Hayes is on a mission “to create beautiful music for the world.”
The Hilo Community Chorus is a nonprofit, nonauditioned community-based chorus directed by Tom McAlexander and accompanied by Walter Greenwood. Anyone who loves to sing choral music and is willing to devote two hours each week for rehearsals is welcome to join.
